In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, cybersecurity has become a crucial factor in safeguarding the integrity of information and ensuring business continuity for companies of all sizes. In this context, we had the opportunity to speak with Ricardo Shuck who, with over 22 years of experience in the IT field, is an expert in cybersecurity and key areas such as IAM (Identity Management) and CIAM (Consumer Identity Management). He has worked in application development, information security, information systems auditing, project management, IT auditing, and project leadership, collaborating with various well-known companies in the digital world. Join us as we explore Ricardo’s key insights and advice on the ever-changing landscape of cybersecurity…
The increase in the intensity of cyberattacks reflects a troubling reality, in which traditional perimeter security has become obsolete due to the decentralization of IT resources. Ricardo discussed the types of cyberattacks that are on the rise, including identity theft, phishing, poor configurations, ransomware, and attacks on cloud infrastructure. He noted that cyberattacks have evolved significantly due to a broader and more diverse attack surface. Factors such as the rise of remote work, exposure to cloud environments, and the sophistication of attacks.
Likewise, the CrowdStrike 2023 Global Threat Report found that 71% of attacks were malware-free, a 95% increase in cloud exploitation, and a concerning 112% rise in the advertising of access brokers on the dark web. In this regard, our expert emphasizes the implementation of risk management programs, the promotion of a security culture, the implementation of incident response systems, and participation in industry forums or organizations as key practices.
What do you consider to be the biggest challenges currently facing the field of cybersecurity?
“To name a few: the agility and sophistication of attacks, as they are becoming more sophisticated and diverse; and the lack of awareness regarding the human factor. Investment issues, since it is often difficult to secure the necessary budget to invest in cybersecurity. Finally, the shortage of talent, which is very scarce.” – Ricardo Shuck, Director of Identity at TEC360 CLOUD
In this scenario, cybersecurity becomes more challenging but also more vital than ever. Emerging trends include Zero Trust, cloud security, detection and response (NDR, EDR, ITDR, XDR, MDR), strengthening identity and authentication, protecting users through security awareness training, and the growing role of artificial intelligence, Ricardo noted.
How can organizations work together effectively to improve cybersecurity?
“It’s not a recipe, but implementing a risk management program and an incident response system, joining or participating in industry forums or organizations to adopt best practices, and having experts help you improve your security posture.” – Ricardo Shuck, Director of Identity at TEC360 CLOUD
In conclusion, the future of cybersecurity looks challenging yet full of opportunities for innovation and proactive defense. As Ricardo points out, artificial intelligence has emerged as a key player in the evolution of these attacks. This underscores the urgent need to shift our focus toward an identity-centric security approach, which stands out as a fundamental pillar of cybersecurity architecture.
